Feedback

We received feedback for our most recent draft of Women's Bane, and we have things that need to be changed to make our title sequence better...

-Shorten the sequence, as it's nearly three minutes long.
This is too long for a title sequence, reviewing the sequence, we decided that a lot of the scenes can be cut/shortened; but will not affect how the narrative is presented.

-Remove the interactive typography.
This is because it does not well as well as we originally planned, some audience members did not even realise they were credits/members of the cast. So to avoid further confusion all credits will be edited in.

 -Re-shoot the glass pouring scenes.
Using one hand instead of two, as it's more sexual, and to be more steady while doing so.

-Performance
When at the protagonists house, Niamh drags the victim around - this could be changed to holding hands to make it seem more inimate.

-Alter the soundtrack
To make it match up with the pace of the title sequence. It'll create more atmosphere and will make the whole sequence flow more smoothly - making it more enjoyable for those viewing it.

-Use red wine
Although we agree in the sense red wine it portrayed to be more romantic and sensual, we cannot red wine; as there will clear visual that the victim has been poisoned.

However, all feedback is from fellow media students and our teachers - although they fit our
target age range, they are anaylising the sequence to find improvements, meaning they could not be paying attention to the narrative as much as non-media students.

Title Sequence Draft 2

This is our most recent title sequence draft, we have changed/re-shot some scenes and added the soundtrack. However there are still some mistakes and more changes could be made to make the sequence flow better.

Production Log

Where: Maddie H's house.
Who: Maddie H, Niamh and George.
(Due to our differing school schedules me and Kelly were unavailable to help film.)
Equipment: DSLRS, Costumes.
Purpose: Re-shoot.
Duration: 2 hours.

The lighting was bright on the day, which was meant we didn't require any lighting for the kitchen scenes. If it was dark, however, the scenes would not of been as successful - as the kitchen scenes were filmed in Maddie's conservatory.

There were no major health risks, apart from if one member dropped a glass. However, this was unlikely as we are careful when filming.

This was the final shoot for Women's bane before the final version, with the intention to slightly tweak our performance to improve our product overall.
Only a few scenes had to be re-shot, such as:
-The corridor scene
- All drinks scenes (pouring, placing glasses...)
-Leading up to the bedroom also had to be re-done (as George wearing a different suit.)

Typography, what we decided on

The typography we decided on was:

‘BASIC FONT TITLE’

This is used for the opening credits/cast member names.

’NITE CLUB’

This is used for the title.

‘TT moons’

This is used for the company name.

Sound

From the poll we decided to use Quirquincho for the soundtrack. However, we will have to mess around with the tempo and speed so it fits the pace of the sequence better. We chose it because of its simple yet slightly creepy undertone. We were debating between this and Gordo Jose, but the sound of the drums in that track washed out all of the other instruments.

We will conduct a small poll to decide what soundtrack will be used.

Changes made to story

After talking with our teacher, we have completely changed the death scene. Instead of it being shot in a bar (or a setup to look like a bar), we have decided to have our female protagonist take her victim back to her house to kill him there. Now there are more location options within Maddie H’s house. It means we can use the bedroom, that has obvious connotations of sexual activity attached to it, the kitchen where she will spike him drink and have easy access to a staircase.

This will make filming a lot easier with minimal setup needed, meaning we can get straight into filming. Hopefully, these will be the shots we need to complete our title sequence.

Sound Brainstorm

We made a quick brainstorm on the ideas we had for the soundtrack, the ones that are circled in red are the ones we all agreed on.

Production Log

Where: Maddie H's House.
Who: Maddie H, Niamh, George.
(Due to differing school schedules me and Kelly were unable to help film.)
Equipment: DSLR, Tripod, Costumes.
Purpose: Re-recording the narrative for the victim's death.
Duration: 2 Hours.

We re-shot the death scene due to a change in the narrative - where the victim was seduced and killed at a bar, but due to filming and age restrictions this wouldn't be able to happen. So, we changed the narrative so she killed the victim back at her apartment. This was meant the narrative would be easier to film and more coherent to the black and white scenes.

There were some issues with this shoot as we had all the props necessary, and most of our issues were with performance and lighting. Maddie's conservatory is mostly glass, so the lighting on a cloudy day caused issues, meaning time was wasted to wait for the sun to come back out. Also, since neither of the actors were professional actors, we had a few performance issues and both need to be fixed in future shoots.

Death scene, attempt 2

We re-filmed the death scene again in the drama department because it had the black background, that our teacher suggested we used, with a red table cloth to create the bar. However, with time constraints we had within the room (2 hours), we found it difficult to film all the scenes, especially because it took a while to set everything up. Below is the final setup, lighting and props that we used.

The protagonist's outfit.
The props used for the victim's death.

The last three photos show that there was something off with the lighting, this was because we wanted to create heavy shadows during this particular scene to create an intense atmosphere. However, the black walls would reflect some of the light making the overall lighting look strange. As a group we have decided to re-film this scene again at Maddie H's house but with different miss-en-scene.

Evaluation Question 1 & 5

A script was wrote by all of us. We wrote the parts that we were going to speak, with small improvements as we found necessary. We thought...
