Writing practice
Later in the sequence the main protagonist will write her name on the mirror, so we tested the style of handwriting that would best suit the theme of our title sequence. We settled on No.2, written by Kelly.
Cast
"Mrs. Cloutier" (The Mother) played by Sharon Stone.
-This is because of her role in Basic Instinct (1992), she played a similar role to how her 'daughter' is now in Women's bane. She links well to the genre and will also fulfil the motherly role.
"Mr. Cloutier" (The Father) played by Tom Hanks.
-He is a well known actor who would bring star power, has played a mixture of roles and would fit into the genre well.
"Violet Cloutier" (The Protagonist) played by Gal Gadot.
The Victim played by Adam Gregory
-A relatively attractive man who would fit the role of a victim, due to his friendly and approachable nature.
The Detective played by Morgan Freeman
-Morgan Freeman is familiar with characters like a detectives which would make the performance more successful. For example, in the film Se7en (1995), he played an intelligent, independent and successful detective. He is a well known actor, who will bring star power.
Production Log
Where: Art department.
Who: Me, Maddie H, Kelly and Niamh.
Equipment: DSLR, light box, whitescreen, lipstick and a lighter.
Purpose: Test shots, creating props/burning lipsticks.
Duration: 1 and a half hours.
For this shoot, we were creating some props that we were possibly going to use in our sequence, with us burning lipstick to create the illusion of blood - similar to American Psycho, but we decided on lipstick as our character is highly sexualised, while signifying the victim's death. As the media room was unavailable we set up in the art studio - it took a while to actually set up as we kept having to move/find items to hold others up.
The overall filming, framing and cinematography of this scene went well. However, the whole scene as was a gerneral health risk. As we were burning a lipstick, we were at risk of many things. Burning plastic is toxic and could have harmed our health, or being burned by the lighter, cables could have tripped us -which is dangerous especially when around fire.

Budget
We have decided on a budget of $55 million, it is quite high in comparison to other thriller films, but this is because we have a handful of well known actors and actresses, such as Morgan Freeman. The film is located in New York –and the protagonist is rich, living in a high class apartment.
Initial Blood shots
We
tested the lipstick scene, while creating props that we will use in
the final sequence. We tested our lighting, and whilst a white screen
wasn't available, we improvised and messed around with whitespace in other
ways. Since our killer is a girl, we wished to represent death in a feminine
way, which created the idea of red lipstick becoming blood, similar to American
Psycho.
Props
- Lipsticks (Some melted, some to be
applied)
- Mirror
- Lighter (May or may not be seen
within title sequence, but will be used to melt the lipsticks)
- Flower resembling the Woman's Bane
( Cannot actually have the real flower due to it being very poisonous)
- Outfits and Shoes
- Martini glass
- Gardening gloves
- Identity card
